Character Recognition

Lectures: Prof. Dr. Laszlo Csink
Lab: Zsolt Szabo

In the first lecture, we are planning to give a short introduction to Optical Character Recognition, including solved problems (recognition of good quality printed text or neatly written handprinted text).
Recognition of omnifont machine-printed text is more difficult, dealing with degraded, bad quality documents is even worse.

In the second lecture we describe how unconstrained handwritten text can be recognized by hidden Markov modelling.
The lectures are followed by a lab session where some of the algorithms will be developed and/or demonstrated.

The lectures are currently scheduled for July 24th.
